Off The Wagon/Foodbuzz Finale

wlEmoticon-smile.png

I’ve fallen off the (blogging) wagon.

When life gets crazy sometimes the blog slips for a few days… and then after it slips for a few days I start getting really overwhelmed because I have that many more days of content I feel the need to post about and then the time just flies by and all of a sudden it’s been a week and a half with no post. Well, I’m getting back on the wagon today and this week will be blog city Smile

A lot has happened in the last week and a half, from the Foodbuzz Festival to some fun times to a race decision, my one-year-out-of-Peace Corps anniversary, and some crazy runs and good eats. I want to finish posting about Foodbuzz so that I can have this one in the books and then get back to everything else. Back on the wagon, as it was.

(Already posted Friday night and Saturday—here’s Sunday, two weeks after the fact!)

The seriously amazing Foodbuzz Festival wound down Sunday with a farewell brunch at Perry’s on the Embarcadero. I hadn’t been to this particular establishment before, and they shut down the restaurant for us.

IMG_0178

The restaurant patio was open and while it was a brisk and chilly SF day, the sun was shining and it was beautiful outside.

IMG_0194

The menu featured a variety of cold and hot breakfast foods as well as some adult beverages. Who doesn’t love boozy brunch?? (Um, me. After two nights of an open bar. Girl needs her detox.)

I did end up asking for a Café Godiva (coffee with chocolate liquor), and while it looked really good I couldn’t stomach it. I’ve never really dug the “booze in hot drinks” thing. Godiva sponsored the brunch and gave us a lot of awesome goodies—expect a giveaway here soon!

I tried a bit of everything. The quiche squares were delicious! The cauliflower was a big hit, though I am probably the one person who prefers not to eat veggies with breakfast. : )

IMG_0179

My favorite was, unsurprisingly, the brioche french toast. I could have eaten four pieces! Oh wait…

Finished off the morning with a stroll down the Embarcadero and through the Ferry Building, always a foodie paradise. One of the best things about the Foodbuzz Festival was to see my city through visitors’ eyes and realize how many delights I’m blessed with having right in front of me.

One of the other “best things” about the Foodbuzz Festival was meeting so many other bloggers! It’s quite late, but one of my post-FbzFest projects was to create a new tab in my google reader for my foodbuzz friends. Here are some really excellent blogs to check out!

· Danielle Abroad

· Healthy Diva Eats

· Jo Boston is a Foodie

· Joy the Baker

· Killer Bunnies, Inc

· Mrs Regueiro’s Plate

· N Her Shoes

· No Recipes

· Pennies on a Platter

· Super Duper Fantastic

· The Healthy Hostess

· Trying to Heal

· Veggie Couture

I’m off to continue my Google Reader Organization Project. Thanks everyone who made my foodbuzz experience awesome (two weeks later). time to be back on the blogging wagon!

  • Attune Breakfast Summit/Fitbloggin Local Part 2!

    IMG_4723.jpg

I love blogger meetups. I love them even more when they involve food and fun people, which luckily, they absolutely always seem to do. Today was Fitbloggin’ Local Meetup #2, also known as the Breakfast Summit so graciously hosted by Annelies and Attune Foods. They welcomed ten lovely bloggers into their beautiful office for a morning of breakfast and chatting.

    IMG_4723

There were two breakfast bars set up, each featuring a variety of Attune cereals (one collection was gluten-free), fresh fruit, different milks, and yogurt.

    IMG_4699

We all helped ourselves to breakfast, and then sat down around the table to eat and chat.

    IMG_4719

My bowl had vanilla Wallaby yogurt, two different kinds of gluten free cereals (I’m not gluten free, but ended up at that breakfast bar and the cereals were still great), blueberries, and strawberries.

    IMG_4705

Supplemented generously by some cinnamon graham crackers and Justin’s honey peanut butter (or was it almond? Either way it was delicious). I LOVE graham crackers. I could eat those things all day.

    IMG_4709

In attendance were a few familiar faces from Fitbloggin’ Local Part 1 back in late June…

As well as some new friends I was happy to meet!

      IMG_4715

We had a chat led by an RD, Jae Berman, about the importance of breakfast. When I first heard we were talking about “the importance of breakfast” I thought it might be a “duh” type of moment (“breakfast is good for you!”) but it was way more than that! Jae was really informative and engaging and made me really want to continue to learn more about nutrition, and, more importantly, what kind of nutrition works best for ME. I really need to reconsider reintroducing animal protein again, but that’s another story for another blog.

It was a great morning at Attune and well worth getting up at 6:30AM on a Saturday for. And check out the swag!

A big things to Annelies and Attune, Justin’s Nut Butter, Wallaby Yogurt, Strauss Family Creamery, and Pacific Natural Foods for making it possible!

After breakfast, we headed out on an adventure to the Ferry Building Farmer’s Market. I just posted about this market recently because I was kind of just there, but it’s great every single time. And even better with bloggers because I don’t feel as lame taking photos of everything on my iPhone!

I walked away with a bag of blue potatoes (random purchase) and, of course, a vegan donut from Pepples. Requirement.

I had a great time today and am looking forward to getting to know some new people and that I keep meeting through blogging, which is just the coolest. It makes me really excited for the Bay Area Blogger Meetup I’m trying to put together for October 8th, too!

The rest of the day was an exhausting shopping spree that merits a whole post in itself.

Gotta get ready for a run in Half Moon Bay tomorrow… goodnight everyone!

    What’s your go-to breakfast food?

  • Dude. Sweet. (Weekend Recap)

    IMG_4461.jpg

The last weekend was pretty awesome. And today has been not that bad either—especially for a Monday! Let’s recap shall we?

Friday night—wish I could tell you about my hot plans but that mostly involved going to the gym and then watching Notting Hill on my laptop while eating popcorn. Awesome. I’m sorry, but that “just a girl, standing in front of a boy” line gets me EVERY TIME!

    IMG_4461

Saturday morning I knocked out what for me was a very speedy six miles! Ignore the several short breaks I took between miles to calm my racing heart.

    IMG_4463

Then it was onto the Ferry Building Farmers’ Market where I met up with Beth and spent some time browsing and of course, eating. Pepples Vegan Donuts for the win! I got a Salted Caramel (classic) but also tried one of their raised donuts (made with yeast). Great! light and fluffy as compared to the dense cakey texture of the others.

    IMG_4467

    IMG_4477

I may have also bought a really huge bag of maple candied almonds (mistake #1) and they may have mostly disappeared (mistake #2). Never again.

    IMG_4473

Ironically I left the farmers market with NO produce as I went with $20 and after Blue Bottle iced coffee, vegan donuts and nuts, it was gone and there are no Wells Fargo ATMs there. Ridiculous.

After that, Beth and I caught the “historic streetcar” with 4,298 other people down to Ghiradelli Square to meet up with Renee and Michelle, who just moved here the day before (!) from the East Coast. We wandered around…

And then I had the great idea to make us walk up Hyde Street into Russian Hill…

    IMG_4479

    IMG_4483

And then we got some thai food at Lemongrass Thai (Not that great…)

    IMG_4485

And then maybe a margarita or two at Nick’s Crispy Tacos… And then it was home. Great time hanging out with those ladies. I spent the evening watching the UCLA football game on TiVo and then some extreme fighting at my friend’s place. Rad.

Sunday morning I was supposed to be at the Conservatory of Flowers at 7:30a for a run and that just plumb didn’t happen. I felt so crappy when I woke up and stayed in bed for a bit. Then it was down to the Mission to watch the Steelers game at a Steelers Bar, Giordano Bros. They serve the sandwiches with the meat, the coleslaw and the french fries between two pieces of fluffy italian bread. They looked AMAZING. I got a few pierogies instead with sweet potato. One-tenth the portion for the same price. But at least I didn’t want to die after.

    IMG_4490

I also drank more Diet Coke than I would ever want to admit but I had to buy SOMETHING if I was taking up a stool in a packed bar for three entire hours, so I got my $1.50 worth. I have a no artificial sweetener policy 99% of the time. The other 1% is when the alternative is buying $5 beers for three hours.

    IMG_4489

After a depressing Steelers loss, I BART’ed back downtown to meet up with Layla, Naomi and Alyssa at the Giants game. I got there just a few minutes late and proceeded to very much enjoy a great time at the game with kettle korn, peanuts, SUN, naked girl, a Giants victory (!!!) and an awesome baked potato with some unwanted nacho sauce which was, admittedly, awesome.

(Note: I am choosing not to reflect on the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 here because it is a very complicated and emotional issue for me and it very much deserves its own post, if I am able to talk about those feelings on here. Not to glaze over the importance of yesterday, but to merely acknowledge that it’s not something that I want to reflect on at this time and place.)

    IMG_4492

After that we took a nice mile walk down past the Ferry Building, carefully made our way up California Street, and ended up at Genki Ramen—the old standby! I was not very hungry due to the massive amount of baseball stadium food inhaled but the leftovers tasted even better for lunch today… minus all the ramen drips that apparently are now all over my dress. Sweet.

    IMG_4509

Then we headed one block north to Clement for banana hi-chews for Alyssa and a long-awaited bubble tea from Quickly for me. I love boba and I hadn’t had one since Thailand in December!

    Solid, solid weekend.

And Monday—woke up at 5:15AM (ouch) and headed to my first bootcamp class of the week. It was dark and creepy but I ran five miles in addition to the hour bootcamp class. Nice.

    Two exciting things happened today:

    maui

One, I bought a plane ticket to Hawaii! On like, less than a day of planning (if you can call it planning). Alyssa and I will be there and it will be epic. Hawaiian is running a great deal if you book by Wednesday—$300 from the East Bay. I’m pumped. And guess what happens when we are there??

    mauimary

Such a coincidence, seriously. And don’t worry I am of course not planning to run the full marathon. I have mai tais to drink, thanks.

Secondly, my landlord told me I could adopt a cat!

    Cat21 source

Now I do NOT know if this is going to happen because I want to weigh the financial and logistical aspects of pet ownership first especially as someone who travels for work. But it means a lot to know I have the option and this weekend getting to play with my friend Mike’s dogs and with Alyssa’s cats just clicked for me how soothing it can be to have an animal around. I am going to look into it and see if it’s something I could legitimately do.

It’s pushing 10PM and I’ve got a 5AM wakeup so I should probably get ready for bed. Have a great night everyone!

what was the highlight of your weekend?
