If you don’t know from my blog already, “Africa Time” just means… late. Very late. And you think that’s normal. I’d heard before moving to Africa that it takes you a year in Africa to get used to AT (as I lovingly call it) and then a whole year BACK in the States to readjust. 11 months, one week to go before I’m punctual!
Moving on.
We have a winner!!! Thank you so much for everyone who entered the cookbook giveaway and spread the news, I really appreciated it! I hope to do more in the future. Oh and another thanks to those of you who notified that my spam checker on wordpress was a little “overly protective”… I reapproved all your comments before drawing a number–WHY wordpress decides to filter the comments that it does, I have no idea.
So our winner is (drumroll please)…..
Lee from College Foodie Finds!
Congrats Lee! Send me your address by email and I’ll get you your cookbook

The lovely Michelle from Give Me The Almond Butter tagged me in the “Stylish Blogger” award that’s been taking the blogworld by storm so I’m finally getting around to it! Thanks Michelle!
There are 4 duties to perform to accept this award:
1. Make a post + Link back to the person who awarded you this award.
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them they’ve won!
Let’s do it. Hmmm, 7 things. This could be fun.
1. I used to go rock climbing a lot when I was in college! I was never very good but I LOVED it. I couldn’t do it in Africa (landmines…) but I hope I can get back into it now that I’m in less dangerous areas.
2. I can quote the movie Independence Day from beginning to end. I also have a weird obsession with natural disaster movies, with Volcano ranking as my all-time favorite. Tommy Lee Jones… A volcano in LA… If you’ve never seen it… don’t worry about it.

3. I’m Turkish except I’m white and pale and redheaded. Couldn’t really guess it. My sister is the exotic one. I love Turkish food, though! Maybe that will make an appearance on the blog soon…
4. I often wonder what my life would be like if it was a movie and what songs I would choose for the soundtrack. At this point I’m pretty sure that Amy Adams would play me for now and Julia Roberts when I’m a bit older. I’ll spare you guys the current soundtrack listing.

5. I am what I’d like to call an “organized clutter” person. I clean my room, desk, purse, etc. and within five minutes it’s already covered with some piles or clothes or what have you. I accept that it’s just who I am and only worry when I either A. no longer know where anything is or B. when I trip and fall on my face when trying to walk out to the bathroom at night. The example below, though, does NOT qualify as organized clutter.
6. My best job ever was being a campus tour guide at UCLA. My worst job ever? Working retail at the mall. I’ve also been a lifeguard, a Resident Assistant, and an academic counselor, among other things. I’ve always wanted to be a barista and am pursuing that dream now.
7. I just bought a djembe (African drum) with some Christmas money I got from my grammy! Now I just need to learn how to play it… I can rock the Rock Band drums, but the real thing is harder!
Now to pass on the award to bloggers I love whose responses I’d like to read…
Alex from I Eat Asphalt
Caroline from Sweet Caroline
Sarah from The Pajama Chef
Matt at The Kitchen of a Runner
Lindsay from Summit Sandwiches
Katie from Cultural Cravings
Heather at Mile 26 and More
Jess at Healthy Exposures

Natalia at A Side of Simple
Angie at The Fitness Apple
Amber from Girl With The Red Hair
If any of you have already done this, I’m really sorry! I am checking up on your blogs after I post this and didn’t cross-check to see whose already posted first.
Have a fantastic day!

very sweet of you to call me “the exotic one” haha…makes me sound a lot prettier than i am!
love you, you stylish blogger you!
Thanks for tagging me in the post I did receive the award already about a week ago but it is an honor coming from you. I think you are a very awesome blogger and always look forward to your posts! P.S. your hair color is so gorgeous I’m jealous and wish I could pull it off!
I think all the movies I watch are guilty-pleausure movies! I like things that are light and funny. I don’t like feeling sad and gloomy after !
I have been loving reading everyone’s facts – and yours are no exception. And how awesome that you had the opportunity to go to Africa!
I’d love for you to blog about Turkish food. I don’t know as I’m all too familiar with it!
I can’t think of a guilty movie obsession. I really don’t watch too many movies…though maybe that’s my guilty part?!
(and I forgot to thank you for passing the award on to me – so, thank you!!)
Thanks for passing this on to me!
Thanks, Courtney! I’m honored
I enjoyed your 7 fun facts and i will be sure to post mine, too! Rock the djembe! (I never knew that was how it is spelled)
PS: I totally understand the AT thing. There is also “Deaf time” and “Kyrgyzstan time.” In Kstan I noticed that people never showed up at the exact time you planned to meet- it was always 30 min before or 30 min after. So you have to mark off that 1 hour to be ready for them to show up. Gotta love it!
hey girl! Is your blog privatized now?
thanks for the shoutout courtney!! i’ll definitely make my post soon
ps my family is assyrian… as in the biblical assyrians (now iran/iraq area)… and alot of our food is very similar to turkish food. yum! i’d love to see some of your favorites
No wonder I love your blog and you! I WAS A CAMPUS TOUR GUIDE TOO! Best job ever. (And I did not mean to intentionally make that rhyme)
WOHOOOO!!!! BEST JOB EVER!!!!
Aww this was cool to learn more about you! You and your sister are both very pretty but I would never guess you were sisters!!! Lol
I am scared of rockclimbing. Something about being vertical like that freaks me out. Lol
Thanks for the tag!! I’d LOVE to go rock climbing, I’ve never been!
I think being a campus tour guide would scare me.. haha but I know a lot of people who do it and love it!
I am the exact same way about Independence Day! Lol….I can quote everything from it. Love love love that movie and all its awesome ridiculousness. Going with the disaster flick theme, I’d have to say Twister is another one of my guilty pleasure movies. All that to be honest, I really don’t feel that guilty about it. What is there to feel guilty about? Can you ever go wrong with watching flying cows, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and F-5 tornados unleash their wrath upon unsuspecting Oklahoma cornfields? I think not. Good lord, I love Twister.
OMG twister. And of course if one is stuck in an F-5, it would make sense that the first barn you run into would be packed with what looked like medieval dismembering equipment. Man I love that movie.
I don’t know if I knew you were Turkish. One of my best friend’s husband is Turkish and they are talking about moving there later this year.
Thanks for the award!
That drum intrigues me. It’s beautiful!
I would love to go rock climbing! I used to do the climbing wall a lot (I was a gymnast, so I had great arm muscles back then, haha). But I’d love to real thing sometime.
You should! It’s awesome and really easy to get started.
I know all the words and songs to the original Hairspray movie (learned back in 1990) and most of the words to these 3 fav movies of mine: Breakfast Club, Tombstone, and Young Frankenstein.
GREAT MOVIES.
Volcano still has me slightly scared. For some reason that movie just really freaked me out. Also, please do share some Turkish recipes. It’s one of my favorite restaurant cuisines, but I’ve no clue how to make it on my own!
I know what you mean. I lived in LA for awhile right off of Wilshire, and for years I’d occasionally wonder if there was lava flowing under me…
Love the 7 facts. My sister and I are different too – I’m red she’s the dark one. Funny how that happens.
